Preventing skin cancer

Skin cancer has long been the most common form of cancer in humans in general. Since the 60s, the number of skin cancer cases has doubled every 10 years. This trend applies to both cases of the so-called disease. “white skin cancer” (basal cell carcinoma) and cases of “black skin cancer” (melanoma).

At the same time, no human organ can be examined as simply and at the same time effectively as the skin. Since skin cancer detected early is almost always curable, prevention and early diagnosis play a decisive role in dermatology. Recommended screening intervals depend on the patient’s specific risk profile. A patient’s risk profile is created at the first examination. A condition for successful treatment of skin cancer is its timely detection.

In 10% of cases of the disease we are talking about the so-called. “black cancer” – malignant melanoma. Much more common is the so-called. “white cancer” (basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma).

Today, gentle surgical procedures, certain immune-activating local therapies, and special light therapies (photodynamic therapy) are used to treat skin cancer.
Clinics in Germany use the most modern systems for computer analysis of skin cancer (digital video dermatoscopy). These systems make it possible to classify skin tumors based on their ability to degenerate into malignant ones. This allows you to avoid unnecessary surgery and take the necessary measures. The examination data (images of skin lesions) are stored digitally and are compared in the context of follow-up using special data analysis software. The system detects newly appeared pigmented moles, and any changes in existing pigmented spots.

In our clinics, all surgical procedures on the skin are performed by an experienced medical team, guided by the latest knowledge of dermatological surgery. Treatment is carried out in accordance with the main principles of the respective professional societies (DGDC: German Society of Dermatological Surgery and ADO: Working Group of Dermatological Oncology).

We perform painless operations under local anesthesia, operations using anesthesia-sedation techniques and perform operations under general anesthesia. We do everything to ensure that after treatment with us, patients can return to everyday life as soon as possible.

List of some of the operations we carry out:

  • Removal of skin tumors (melanoma, basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, moles/nevi, wen/lipomas, cysts, etc.)
  • reconstructive procedures (flap operations, skin grafts, etc.)
  • circumcision
  • correction of scars (for example, acne scars)
  • removal of sweat glands (curettage) for excessive sweating in the armpits (hyperhidrosis)
  • cosmetic surgery
  • eyelid operations
  • liposuction

Aesthetic dermatology

Aesthetic dermatology is developing rapidly:

Average life expectancy in Western countries has increased significantly in recent decades. However, this concerns not only an increase in the number of years lived, but also an improvement in the quality of life, which has reached a level that was difficult to dream of just 20 years ago. It’s no wonder that with this comes a growing desire among older people to maintain an attractive appearance to fit their new lifestyle. Research shows that attractiveness contributes to development and success in personal life, leisure, and, not least, in the professional sphere. Skin, being the main element of interaction with others, plays a key role in the perception of external attractiveness.

In recent years, methods have been developed that effectively eliminate aesthetic problems in the facial area.

Non-surgical procedures at our clinic include:

  • Reduction of wrinkles with fillers (hyaluronic acid, collagen, lactic acid preparations)
  • Reducing facial volume loss with fillers
  • Reducing wrinkle-promoting muscle activity with botulinum toxin (Botox)
  • Disorders of fine collagen texture are treated using a fractionated laser system. In addition, pigment and vascular disorders are treated using laser.

Surgical procedures at our clinic include:

  • Eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty of the upper and lower eyelids)
  • Cheek and neck lift using various surgical lifting procedures, removal of excess fat deposits using liposuction.

The treatment concept is aimed at achieving a rejuvenation effect without changing the type of face and at the invisibility of a particular procedure.

Laser therapy:

Laser therapy is used in our clinic for medical reasons and for aesthetic purposes.

  • KTP laser: veins / vessels / minor varicose veins / warts
  • ruby laser: hair removal, age spots and tattoos removal
  • Erbium-JAG laser: benign skin tumors / pigmentation disorders

Trichology/hair

Hair growth disorders are one of the most concerning problems for patients in dermatology. Hair in most cultures is considered a symbol of social status and symbolizes power, strength and attractiveness. Therefore, hair loss in women and young men is an important diagnostic and therapeutic task, since this problem is related to the psychological well-being of patients.

Professor Dr. Dirschka has been intensively dealing with hair and scalp diseases for many years. Most diseases require an intensive conversation about the medical history, accurate diagnosis and specially tailored treatment measures. This can only be achieved with sufficient time for patients, which is very important in hair diagnosis and treatment.

At our hair health consultations, we use the following state-of-the-art diagnostic procedures for various forms of hair loss:

  • computer trichodensitometry
  • trichogramma
  • fine tissue examinations of the scalp
  • microbiological examination of the scalp
  • hormonal diagnostics (sex hormones, thyroid hormones)
  • immunological diagnostics
  • nutrient diagnostics

Treatment is based on the patient’s individual characteristics and includes various specifically selected therapies.
