Cardiology Center
One of the main areas of focus at the complex is the Cardiac Center (Cardiac Arrest Center) led by Professor Dr. Michael Haude. The center specializes in heart diseases, circulatory disorders, kidney diseases, and intensive care. A particular highlight is the Chest Pain Unit, which focuses on treating cardiovascular conditions, acute and chronic heart failure, valve defects, congenital heart defects, and the implantation of all types of pacemakers and defibrillators, including cardiac resynchronization therapy systems. The center is equipped with three modern cardiac catheterization laboratories and offers all types of non-invasive imaging techniques.
First Surgical Clinic
Under the leadership of Professor Dr. Tobias Heintges, the Second Medical Clinic focuses on diseases of the gastrointestinal tract and liver, all therapeutic oncological conditions, blood and lung diseases, as well as infectious diseases.
Second Medical Clinic
Led by Professor Dr. Alexis Ulrich, the First Surgical Clinic combines general surgery, visceral surgery, thoracic surgery, endocrine surgery, coloproctology, hernia surgery, as well as minimally invasive surgery and robotic surgery using the da Vinci X® system. This system is employed in almost all abdominal cancer surgeries. The da Vinci X® robotic surgical system enables surgeons to control the instruments in real time, offering maximum precision during operations.
The Vascular Surgery Department provides a full range of surgical treatments for vascular diseases and interventions.
Lung and Thoracic Surgery Center
The Lung and Thoracic Surgery Center offers treatment for all benign diseases of the lungs, pleura, trachea, chest wall, mediastinum, and diaphragm. Special attention is given to lung tumors (lung cancer, lung metastases). A large number of tumor removal surgeries are performed using minimally invasive thoracoscopic methods and the da Vinci X® robotic system. The center has a high level of expertise in late-stage tumor surgery requiring bronchoplasty and angioplasty.
In addition to lung tumors, the center specializes in:
- Tumors of the mediastinum (e.g., thymomas, nerve tumors, cysts)
- Pulmonary emphysema
- Tracheal diseases
- Inflammatory lung diseases
- Pleural diseases
- Chest wall tumors, malformations, and injuries
- Diaphragm disorders
The center is headed by Jan Martin Beron.
Endocrine Surgery Clinic
The thyroid gland is a key metabolic organ performing vital functions. It produces two hormones that affect nearly every cell in the body, influencing heart rate, blood pressure, digestion, growth, and emotional well-being.
The Third Specialized Clinic is a recognized center for thyroid and parathyroid surgery both in Germany and internationally. With years of experience, the clinic performs over 800 surgeries annually. The head of the clinic and chief physician is Dr. Katharina von Schenk.
Accurate treatment starts with a precise diagnosis.
Not every thyroid nodule requires surgery. During consultation, examination results are carefully evaluated, and patients are thoroughly informed about possible alternative therapies. Alongside extensive experience, the clinic is equipped with the latest technology, allowing for the safest possible surgeries for both benign and malignant conditions.
The clinic places particular focus on the treatment of thyroid cancer, both hereditary and sporadic. Although this rare disease accounts for only 2% of all new cancer cases, this clinic performs around 15% of such operations nationwide.
Our specializations include:
- Benign thyroid nodules
- Malignant thyroid tumors
- Goiter (enlarged thyroid)
- Hyperthyroidism
- Autoimmune thyroid diseases
- Benign parathyroid tumors
- Malignant parathyroid tumors
Urology Clinic
Led by Professor Dr. Thomas Otto, the Urology Clinic focuses on tumors of the urinary and genital tracts, neuro-urology (incontinence), kidney stone diseases, pediatric urology, and specialized urological surgery. Additional focuses include restoration of sexual function through pelvic surgery for both men and women and innovative tissue regeneration methods using tissue engineering.
Thanks to the da Vinci X® robotic system, the clinic offers patients precise and gentle surgical procedures, allowing for quicker recovery and significantly shorter hospital stays.
ENT Clinic
The Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) Clinic, including head and neck surgery, plastic and aesthetic procedures, and voice and speech disorders, is headed by Professor Dr. Andreas Neumann. The main areas include middle ear surgery, sinus surgery, tumor removal, and aesthetic procedures. Diagnostic services include hearing, balance, and smell tests, as well as ultrasound and allergy testing.
Gynecology Clinic
The Gynecology and Obstetrics Clinic, led by Jorg Falbrede, focuses on surgical treatment of conditions affecting the external and internal genital organs and the breasts (including benign and malignant tumors), as well as minimally invasive surgery of the uterus and ovaries. Surgeons use both classical minimally invasive techniques and, when possible, robot-assisted da Vinci X® technology. The clinic’s specialists are highly experienced.
The clinic works closely with general, vascular, thoracic surgery, and urology. A key department is the certified oncogynecological center, recognized by the German Cancer Society (ISO 9001:2008 certified).
Pediatric Clinic
The Pediatric Clinic, led by Professor Dr. Guido Engelmann, specializes in the treatment of children and adolescents, including newborns and premature babies, as well as children with infectious diseases, pulmonary disorders, epilepsy, and diabetes.
Institute of Clinical Radiology
The Institute of Clinical Radiology conducts all diagnostic and therapeutic radiological procedures. Using the most modern equipment, the institute applies low-radiation methods aligned with the latest medical standards.
