Treatment of lymph nodes for breast cancer in Germany

Innovative therapies: sentinel node biopsy, PET-CT and personalized therapy.

Lymph nodes are a key indicator of the spread of breast cancer (BC). RheinRegio Klinik Zentrum uses innovative methods to assess the condition of the lymph nodes, which allows you to accurately determine the stage of the disease and develop a personalized treatment plan.

The role of lymph nodes in breast cancer

The lymphatic system performs two important functions:

  • Filtration – traps tumor cells
  • Indication – node damage indicates the aggressiveness of cancer

The main groups of lymph nodes for breast cancer:

  • Axillary (axillary) – most often affected
  • Intrathoracic (parasternal)
  • Supraclavicular
  • Sentinels are the first on the path of lymph outflow

Symptoms of lymph node damage in breast cancer

Main manifestations:

  • Enlargement and thickening of the axillary, supra- and subclavian lymph nodes
  • Pain or discomfort in the armpit area
  • Restricted mobility of lymph nodes (adherence to surrounding tissues)
  • Swelling of the arm (lymphedema) with significant damage
  • Detection of altered nodes on ultrasound/mammography without external symptoms (in the early stages)

Important:
▪️ In 25-30% of patients, lymph node damage is detected before complaints appear
▪️ Absence of symptoms does not exclude micrometastatic lesions
▪️ Always requires histological confirmation (biopsy)
