Skin Cancer Prevention

Skin cancer is for a long time is the most common form of human cancer in general. Since the 60s, the number of cases of skin cancer is doubling every 10 years. This trend applies to both cases of the so-called “white skin cancer” (basal cell carcinoma), and in cases of “black skin cancer” (melanoma).

At the same time, none of the human body organ can be investigated so simple and effective as the skin. Since the timely detected skin cancer is almost always curable, prevention and early diagnostics plays a crucial role in dermatology. The recommended preventive examination intervals depend on the specific risk profile of the patient. The patient’s risk profile is determined at the first examination. The condition for the successful skin cancer treatment is its timely detection.

In 10% of cases we are talking about the so-called “black cancer” – malignant melanoma. So-called “white cancer” (basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma) is much more common.

For the treatment of skin cancer nowadays are used:

  • sparing surgical procedures
  • immune-activating local therapy
  • special light therapy (photodynamic therapy)

The clinics in Germany use the most modern systems of computer analysis of skin cancer (digital video dermatoscopy). These systems provide the ability to classify skin tumors based on their ability to progress into malignant. This allows you to avoid unnecessary surgery and take the necessary measures. The examination data (images of skin lesions) are stored in digital form and with the help of special software for data analysis are compared in the follow-up process. The system detects the newly emerged pigmented moles and any changes to the existing pigmented spots.

In our clinics all surgical procedures on the skin are performed by an experienced medical team following the latest developments of dermatologic surgery. Treatment is carried out in accordance with the main principles of the relevant professional associations (DGDC: German Society for Dermatologic Surgery and ADO: Dermatologic Cooperative Oncology Group).

We perform painless surgery under local anesthesia, surgery using such techniques of anesthesia as sedation and the surgery under general anesthesia. We do everything to ensure that after treatment the patients could to return to normal everyday life as soon as possible.

List of some surgical operations we perform:

The average life expectancy of people in western countries has increased noticeably in recent decades. It is, however, not only an increase in life expectancy in years, but also improving the quality of life and activity to the level that would have been unthinkable even 20 years ago. Therefore, it is not surprising that the desire of older people to look good, to match the new way of life is constantly growing. Studies show that the good appeal increases the possibility of development and prospects of people in their personal life, leisure and not least of all, in working life. The skin as the main contact element to the social environment plays an important role in the attraction of people.

In recent years, have been developed techniques that effectively eliminate the aesthetic problems of the face.

Trichology / hair

Violation of hair growth is one of very concerning the dermatology patients issues. Hair in most cultures are considered as a symbol of social status and symbolize power, strength and attractiveness. Therefore, hair loss in women and young men is an important diagnostic and therapeutic challenge because the problem is related to the psychological well-being of patients.

Prof. Dr. Dierschka for many years is intensively dealing with the diseases of hair and scalp. Most diseases require intensive conversation about anamnesis, accurate diagnosis and specially adapted treatment measures. This can be achieved only in case of presence of sufficient amount of time for the patients, which is important in the diagnostics and treatment of hair.

In our consultation on the health of hair, we use the following modern diagnostic procedures for various forms of hair loss:

  • computer hair densitometry
  • trichogram
  • fine tissue examination of the scalp
  • microbiological scalp examination
  • hormonal diagnostics (sex hormones, thyroid hormones)
