Consolidation therapy in Germany

Consolidation therapy in oncology – modern treatment protocols in Germany

Consolidation therapy is a key stage in the complex treatment of cancer, aimed at destroying residual tumor cells after the main course of therapy. RheinRegio Klinik Zentrum uses individual consolidation schemes, developed taking into account the latest advances in global oncology, which can significantly reduce the risk of relapses and increase the duration of remission.

What is consolidation therapy?

This is the final phase of treatment, which:

  • Strengthens the results of primary therapy (chemotherapy, surgery, radiation)
  • Eliminates micrometastases
  • Prolongs the relapse-free period

Main types of consolidation:

  • Chemotherapy (high doses of cytostatics)
  • Radiation therapy (IMRT, SBRT)
  • Immunotherapy (PD-1/PD-L1 inhibitors)
  • Bone marrow transplantation (for hematological malignancies)

Indications

The method is used when:

  • Lymphomas (Hodgkin and non-Hodgkin)
  • Acute leukemia (ALL, AML)
  • Multiple myeloma
  • Solid tumors (ovarian, lung, breast cancer)
  • After induction chemotherapy

Criteria for appointment:

  • Achieving complete/partial remission
  • High risk of relapse
  • Good response to first line treatment

Contraindications

Consolidation is not carried out if:

  • Severe organ failure
  • Uncontrolled infections
  • Severe cytopenia
  • Drug intolerance

Each direction is supervised by advanced oncologists.
